How do you consider sustainability in the design process?
Our products are designed to stand the test of time, both in their style and their quality. With every design, we consider its usage and lifespan. We strive to create timeless designs which can be restyled and lived with from nursery through to toddler and beyond. Most of our products are made from sustainably sourced paper and can be easily recycled.
Why do you print to order?
Our carbon footprint is reduced by printing most of our products to order. This applies to our wallpapers, wall murals and art prints. This means the product is only shipped once (directly to you), instead of shipping from printer to warehouse to you.
With our art prints, we partner with printers in multiple locations meaning that rather than shipping an item across the world, we can reduce the distance your parcel travels.
What makes your wallpaper sustainable?
We chose our wallpaper printer because they’re a world-leader in quality wallpaper production but also due to their intention to be the most ecologically friendly wallpaper printer in the industry. They’re aiming to run the factory entirely on green energy and become carbon neutral by 2025.
Tell me about what makes your print process eco-friendly?
Our wallpaper is printed in the UK on a non-woven, sustainably sourced paper and we only use HP Latex inks which are water based and environmentally friendly.
These inks are certified to meet some of the world's most rigorous standards for low chemical emissions into the air. They also meet stringent health and environmental criteria and are UL ECOLOGO® certified5, conform to ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List6, and comply with toy safety requirements. They’re also free from Cadmium, Chromium, Mercury, Lead (tested to >0.2ppm) or Formaldehyde - so you can rest assured your family aren’t breathing in any nasties.
But why is my wallpaper wrapped in plastic?
Unfortunately, paper products are vulnerable to damp. We want to move away from plastic wrap but haven’t yet found a suitable alternative that will protect your items in transit. We’re actively seeking alternatives to adopt as soon as one becomes available.
In the meantime, the plastic wrapping can be recycled by taking it to a recycling centre or plastic film collection point. If you’re in the UK, visit www.recyclenow.co.uk to find your nearest recycling point.
Art Prints
As well as printing on demand to reduce wastage, we also partner with trusted local printers to reduce transportation distances. This means that on average, 85% of orders can be produced in the same country they’re being delivered to - which translates to a potential saving of 67% of carbon emissions per order.
Our art prints are made from paper and wood sourced from sustainably managed forests and are printed on museum quality paper to ensure your prints can be enjoyed for years to come.
What else do you do to support the environment?
For every order you place* we’ll plant a tree!
It’s now common knowledge that one of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is to plant trees. They’re also crucial in preventing ecological collapse. We’ve partnered with Ecologi so that for every order placed, they’ll plant a tree on your behalf. Ecologi support a wide range of carbon avoidance projects that are certified Gold Standard or the Verified Carbon Standard.
